Welcome to Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church! We are so glad you are here! If you want to know more about us, our church motto, “Traditional Worship, Dynamic Preaching, Authentic People” pretty much tells you exactly who we are and how we do things around here. Let me explain…
“Traditional Worship” doesn’t mean somber and stuffy. Not around here, anyway. We worship “in Spirit and in truth” the old-fashioned way. We still use a piano and organ as our primary instruments. We still have a church choir that sings in four-part harmony. We still sing out of the Baptist Hymnal. You won’t find any big screens, elaborate light shows, or rock bands here. Not that there’s anything wrong with that stuff, that’s just not who WE are.
We also understand that there’s more to worship than just the music. “Dynamic Preaching” is an important part of our worship experience too. According to dictionary.com, the word dynamic means “a force, especially one that motivates, affects development or stability.” It comes from the Greek word dynamikos, which means “powerful” and is also the root for the English word dynamite! Our preaching is not powerful because of the charisma of the preacher or the volume of the preaching. Our preaching is powerful because it is unapologetically based on the inerrant, infallible, perfect Word of God, which has the power to move us from where we are to where God wants us to be.
And if we are going to allow God to move us from where we are to where he wants us to be, we have to be real – with both God and each other – about who we are and where we are in our walk with him. No putting on airs, acting holier-than-thou, or pretending we’re perfect. We’re not. That’s why we’re all here. We are on the same journey toward Christ, helping and encouraging each other along the way. We are a family of “Authentic People” who love God, love each other, and honestly seek after our perfect Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Now that we’ve formally introduced ourselves and you know a little more about us, we hope you’re intrigued enough to explore the rest of this site, which goes into more depth about how we do things and what we have to offer. We are praying for you as you seek a church home, and would love for you to join the family of believers here at Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church.
