Dirty Windows
How often we overlook our own failures and sins while criticizing the faults of others. A woman named Ruth told how she came to see the truth. The building across the alley from where she lived was only a few feet away, and she could easily look into her neighbor's apartment. Ruth had never met the woman who lived there, but every day she could see her as she sewed and read. After several months, she noticed that she could not see her clearly any more. Ruth couldn't understand why the woman didn't wash her windows. One sunny afternoon, Ruth decided to do some house cleaning, which included washing her windows. Later that day, she sat down to rest by her window, and to her amazement, she could clearly see her neighbor sitting in her apartment. Ruth thought, "Well finally, she washed her windows!" By now you have probably guessed what happened. Ruth's own windows were the ones that needed to be washed. Are looking through smudges in your life and criticizing others? In Luke 6:41 Jesus said, "Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not perceive that plank in your own?" We must ask God to forgive us for our own flaws before we try to help others with theirs.

Our Attendance of Worship
By Ron Boatwright

Worship is a privilege only children of God have. There are many blessings we receive from faithful attendance in worship. God has commanded us to assemble regularly to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Hebrews 10:25 - 27 says "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching." When people fall away from the Lord, it is usually not a sudden thing. They usually start by forsaking the assembly of Wednesday night Bible study. Then they start missing Sunday evening worship. Next they stop to Sunday morning Bible study; and then finally they stop coming to Sunday morning worship. This is the usual path of apostasy for most people who fall away. Let's not lose our souls by unfaithfulness.
God has given us His Son and blessings on a daily basis. Why is it so hard to give Him the worship that is due Him?

The 10 Commandments (Short Form)

2. You shall not make idols.
3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.

"...Which is the greatest commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first great commandment. And the second is like it: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." On these two commandments hand all the Law and the Prophets."

Three Keys to Happiness
The psalmist wrote in Psalm 144:15 "...happy are the people whose God is the Lord." Fear hinders our faith but, but trust always kindles confidence. An elderly gentleman was asked what had robbed him of joy the most in his lifetime. His answer was surprising as he said, "Things that never happened!" All of us can recall needless burdens that we have carried and worried over expecting the worse. Certainly the Lord does not lay such burdens on us. Someone has cited these three keys to happiness:

FRET NOT - Jesus loves you (John 13:1)
FAINT NOT - Jesus holds you (Psalm 13:10)
FEAR NOT - Jesus keeps you (Psalm 121:5)

As we rest in the love and keeping power of Christ, the Lord will give us strength and the ability to move forward without being afraid. If you want more joy today, use the three keys to happiness!

Sustained by Prayer
Prayer sustains God's people. The follower of Christ receives courage and confidence in the most difficult situations when he cries out to the Lord from the depth of his heart in prayer. Luke records in the book of Acts the peace Stephen received as he was being stoned. This faithful servant of God was praying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit" in the closing moments of his life. Reports are still being received through missionaries of the terrible experiences Christians are undergoing in foreign countries such as China and the Middle East. We are beginning to experience persecution in our own country as more and more of our freedoms are being removed and silenced. Our hearts have peace because of prayer in difficult times. A Christian writer wrote, "Above all, I am a Christian. I felt at ease in prison and when I was set free, and strange as it may seem, I was stronger, through I had been subjected to very bad conditions." He went on to attribute his victory to prayer. When trouble surrounds you and you feel overwhelmed, think of Stephen and Joseph. Call out to God in faith. You will learn what it means to be sustained by prayer!

Family
I love my family with all my heart,
God's blessing they're to me.
They make me happy, they make me whole.
They've cheered me on to reach the goal.

When times were dark and tears came down,
They stuck with me, I did not drown,
They encouraged me and said, "Be brave,"
When there was a need, they always gave.

I love my family with all my heart,
There's coming a day when we must part.
I know I'll see them in heaven someday,
And with the Lord there we will stay.

A Simple Gift
Salvation is a gift from God. He provided the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, the Lamb that was slaughtered for the salvation of man, to His creation, mankind. We don't deserve it. Those who have accepted Christ are sinners saved by grace. One only has to say, "Yes, Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and believe." (...I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." John 14:6, John 3:16, Romans 10:9) Through Christ's death, God offers you forgiveness for your sins, and through His resurrection, the promise of everlasting life. Confess that you are a sinner (For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23) and ask to be forgiven. Say a simple prayer, something like, "Dear Jesus, come into my heart. I am a sinner. Forgive me and make me clean. I love you, Lord, make me your own." That's it! It's that simple and a gift from the Father through His Son! Find a Bible-believing church like Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church and begin to learn God's Word and fellowship with God's people!

Full Armor
God has provided wonderful protection for His children because He is aware of the continuous battle that Satan wages against us. His armor is tailor made for each of us, but we must put it on in order for it to be effective. Listen to Paul's warning to the Ephesians, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." One of the most unusual creatures in the sea is the lobster. It runs backwards; it hears with its legs and tastes with its feet. It chews its food with teeth in its stomach. Because the lobster is delicious food for other sea creatures, the Lord gave it a full suit of armor. As Children of God, we have also been blessed with a full suit of armor. A helmet of salvation, a breastplate of righteousness, and a shield of faith. When we forget any part of our armor, we are inviting spiritual injury. Let's take full advantage of our armor!

The Master's Way

Not ours to know the reason why
Unanswered is our prayer;
But ours to wait for God's own time
To lift the cross to bear.

Not ours to know the reason why
From loved ones we must part;
But ours to live in faith and hope,
Though bleeding in our heart.

Not ours to know the reason why
This anguish, strife, and pain;
But ours to know a crown of thorns
Sweet grace for us to gain.

A cross, a bleeding heart, and crown-
What greater gifts are given?
Be still, my heart, and murmur not -
These are the keys to heaven.

Two Little Boys
A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. The two were always getting into trouble and their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in their town their two young sons were in some way involved. The parents were at their wits end as to what to do about their sons' behavior. The mother had heard that a pastor in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so she asked her husband if he thought they should send the boys to speak with the Pastor. The husband said, "We might as well. We need to do something before I really lose my temper!" The Pastor agreed to speak with the boys, but asked to see them individually. The 8 year old went to meet with him first. The Pastor sat the boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?" The boy made no response, so the Pastor repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?" Again the boy made no attempt to answer. So the Pastor raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face, "WHERE IS GOD?" At that the boy bolted from the room and ran directly home, slamming himself in the closet. Hid older brother followed him into the closet and asked what had happened. The younger brother replied, "we are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it!"

Making the Right Decision!
God looks over the millions of people and says, "Welcome to Heaven. I want the women to go with Saint Peter, and the men to form two lines. Make one line of the men that dominated their women on earth, and the other of men who were dominated by their women."

There's much movement, but eventually the women are gone and there are two lines. The line of men that were dominated is 100 miles long. the line of men that dominated women has only one man.

God gets angry and says, "You men should be ashamed of yourselves. I created you in my image and you were all dominated by your mates. Look at the only one of my sons that stood up and made me prous. Learn from him!"

He turns to the man and says, "Tell them, my son. How did you manage to be the only one on that line?" The man says, "I don't know, my wife told me to stand here."
It's always better when we involve God in every decision!

Sin Saps our Energy
Sin saps us of our God-given strength. When we allow sin to come into our lives, we slowly begin to drift away from the Lord. We lose our desire to spend time in His Word, to pray, and even attend church services. The Bible tells of a man named Samson who possessed physical strength like no other man on earth. Yet, he let sin enter his heart and soon he was drained of God-given strength. We must deliberately take time daily to ask the Lord to reveal our faults and sins to us., When we repent, God is gracious and will set us free from sin's control Through the Holy Spirit, the Lord will arm us to stronger and help us to keep from falling again.
