Every believer is obligated to give ten percent of his or her income to the local church to provide the resources needed to take care of the ministers, maintain the church buildings, and do the work of ministry. This gift is called a “tithe” and is commanded by God and expected of all church members (Leviticus 27:30-32, Numbers 18:21-24, Malachi 3:7-10, Matthew 5:17-19, Matthew 23:23). Any gift above and beyond the tithe is called an “offering.” The amount and frequency of each offering is a personal decision and should not be given reluctantly or out of compulsion, but generously and with a cheerful heart (Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4, 2 Corinthians 9:5-8).
Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church seeks to be transparent in how it collects, records, and uses the gifts received from our members and guests. Here are a few important facts regarding the financial operations of Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church:
Accountability – Each month a detailed financial report is compiled by the Financial Secretary, reviewed by the Church Treasurer, the Pastor, and the Budget & Finance Committee, and is presented to the church for approval.
Budget – We operate strictly under a church approved budget. No one spends beyond their budgeted amount without church approval.
Indebtedness – Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church is currently debt-free. The church does not borrow money without approval from the congregation.
Giving – Financial support comes primarily from God through the gifts of his people. Each member is asked to tithe. Giving is voluntary and no “bills” are sent to members.
Confidentiality – All giving is kept confidential. Only the Financial Secretary has access to giving records.
Contributions – Most members give weekly by placing their gift in an envelope and placing it in the offering plate during our Sunday Morning Worship Service. Contributions can also be given during Sunday School, deposited in a secure drop-box located outside the Church Office, or mailed directly to the church at:
