Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church is a body of believers that God has strategically placed in Fairhope, Alabama to be his witnesses and accomplish his purposes in this community, county, state, and throughout the world.
We understand that by placing us in Fairhope, God has made our primary ministry assignment spreading the gospel and making disciples in and around Fairhope. We also understand that the gospel endeavor is a cooperative endeavor, that God has given us a special and unique role to fill in that endeavor, and that we should work cooperatively with like-minded churches to accomplish that endeavor. So, we set about finding out who lives in our community, who is moving into our community, and who the other churches in our community are primarily serving.
What we found out was the fastest growing segment of our community is empty-nesters, retirement-aged, and senior adults, yet most churches in our area are focusing on reaching and discipling children, youth, and young families. Our ministry assignment started to come into crystal clear focus: God created Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church to primarily focus on reaching and ministering to empty-nesters, retirement-aged, and senior adults in the greater Fairhope area. That has been our primary ministry assignment for the past two decades and that is still our ministry assignment today.
That does not mean that we ONLY minister to empty-nesters, retirement-aged, and senior adults. Everyone is welcome here regardless of age, family status, or work status. What it does mean, however, is that every element of our ministry – from the style of worship to our weekly schedule of worship services and activities – is designed to cater to the unique needs of empty-nesters, retirement-aged, and senior adults.
For example, we are the only church in Fairhope that still has a Sunday Evening Worship Service, and that worship service starts at 4pm so everyone can get home before dark – even in the shortest days of winter. We are also the only church in Fairhope that offers daily activities for retirees and senior adults at 10am while still offering evening activities for our empty-nesters and retirement-aged members who work during the day. It’s just a different way of doing ministry. And it’s our great joy to minister to a segment of our community that other churches may have missed, neglected, or left behind.
